Na pytanie, czy wykrywacze radarów są legalne, nie można udzielić jednolitej odpowiedzi w Europie. Istnieją kraje, w których korzystanie z wykrywaczy radarów jest legalne, podczas gdy w innych krajach UE zabronione jest jedynie korzystanie z jammerów. Inne kraje zezwalają jedynie na wykrywacze radarów, które zgłaszają fotoradary stacjonarne za pośrednictwem GPS, ale nie na odbiorniki radarowe.
